FIR counters FIR after political clash in Bagma, 3 injured, 7 bikes ransacked, resistance grows against attackers
With days are coming for 2023 assembly elections in Tripura, the political violence and clashes are also being increasing in the state in every passing days and its latest edition, three ruling party workers suffered grievous injuries and seven motor bikes were also ransacked, when a pitch-battle erupted among the supporters of BJP and Congress in Bagma area of Gomati district on Friday night.
Sources said that the violence started when opposition Congress organized a rally at Bagma Bazar on Friday night and after the rally, a dispute erupted among a Congress worker Bikash Debnath and a BJP worker Litan Ghosh. Within few minutes, the supporters of both parties issuing the dispute engaged themselves with scuffle, but police forces immediately rushed to the spot and defused the tension.
After the Bagma Bazar incident, some Congress workers allegedly started stone pelting targeting some motor bikes of BJP workers at Gopi Choumohani, about 2 kilometers away from Bagma Bazar, then another group of BJP workers arrived at the spot and started indiscriminate attacks . Later, a large number of Congress workers along with local people including women resisted them. As a result, three BJP workers identified as Ajit Ghosh (26), Pintu Ghosh (26) and Kanu Datta (42) suffered injuries and they were shifted to Gomati district hospital. During stone pelting, the local people, mainly women, had also ransacked seven motor bikes, which were allegedly used by motor bike mafias.
Local sources said that when motor bike mafias owing allegiance with the ruling party started violent activities, the local people unitedly resisted them and they were forced to escape the spot leaving their motor bikes. Later, local people ransacked their bikes.
After the incident, ruling BJP alleged that when their supporters were returning back to their houses, a gang of Congress workers without any provocation attacked them and injured three party workers and had also ransacked their motor bikes.
BJP leader Ajit Ghosh filed a complaint at Bagma police outpost against seven Congress workers and police have also registered an FIR.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Bagma police outpost Ratan Das said they have registered the FIR under section 144,149,325 and 247 of IPC and started investigation, He also said that Congress also lodged a complaint and police are also investigating the incident.
Amidst escalating tension, the local MLA and Minister Rampada Jamatia on Saturday morning visited violence affected areas and also visited the hospital and houses of injured BJP workers.
